Webtrap is an experimental and exploratory work built around a core of four pitches. By placing these pitches in different octaves and exploring their contrasting timbral qualities, the music gradually creates layers of contrast and dissonance.
As the piece unfolds, additional inflected pitches are introduced, expanding and complicating the original four-note framework. This process parallels the construction of a spider's web: beginning with a small number of essential threads, then gradually extending, intersecting, and reinforcing them to form an increasingly intricate network.
In Webtrap, pitches, registers, and timbres similarly accumulate and intertwine, transforming a simple four-note nucleus into an increasingly complex sonic structure. This gradual process creates a musical space that is both delicate and tense, much like a spider's web — fragile in appearance, yet capable of becoming a trap.
It is from this parallel between musical construction and the formation of a spider's web that the work takes its title, Webtrap.
