The 12th Connection is an experimental twelve-tone work centered on the exploration of timbre. Rather than focusing solely on the organization of pitch, the piece investigates how different techniques can be used to bring the timbral identities of individual instruments closer together.
Throughout the work, I make extensive use of the exchange of the same pitch between different instruments. By allowing a single pitch to pass from one instrument to another while remaining at the same pitch level, the music creates subtle transitions between contrasting timbral colors. In this way, the boundary between individual instruments gradually becomes blurred, allowing their sounds to merge, overlap, and transform into one another.
The twelve-tone language therefore becomes not only a means of organizing pitch, but also a framework for exploring the relationship between pitch, timbre, and instrumental identity. Through this process, The 12th Connection seeks to discover how different instruments can be connected through a shared pitch, and how timbral transformation can reshape our perception of the twelve-tone material.
